AI Background Removal
How to remove product backgrounds and place them on a clean colored background using the AI-powered Studio with fal.ai Qwen.
Remove backgrounds with AI
The Studio uses fal.ai Qwen Image Layered to intelligently separate your product from its background and place it on a clean, solid-color surface. Unlike basic cutout tools, this AI handles difficult cases like light products on light backgrounds with high accuracy.
Select the products to process
Go to the Products page. Check one or more product cards, then click "Studio" in the selection toolbar that appears at the top.
Configure the processing options
In the Studio panel, toggle the options you need:
- Background removal -- Enable to strip the original background and replace it with a solid color.
- Reframing -- Enable to automatically recenter and crop the product within the frame.
You can enable both at the same time or use them independently.
Choose aspect ratio and background color
Pick your target aspect ratio:
- 1:1 -- Square, ideal for Shopify product grids.
- 3:4 -- Portrait, great for tall products.
- 4:3 -- Landscape, suited for wide items.
Then select a background color from the preset palette (white, light gray, beige, black, or custom).
Launch the processing
Click "Launch" to start. A progress bar shows real-time status as each image is processed. Processing time depends on the number of images in the batch.
Review the results
When processing completes, the validation panel opens automatically. You see a before/after comparison for every image. Nothing has been applied to your product cards yet.
For each image, click the checkmark to approve or the X to reject. Only approved images will replace the originals.
The Qwen AI works remarkably well even on light-colored products photographed against white or light backgrounds -- cases where older tools typically fail. You do not need high-contrast photos to get clean results.
Each image processed costs credits. The exact cost is displayed before you confirm. Check your balance in Settings > Billing before launching a large batch.
